Fact-finding Meeting: Post-Elections Crackdown Contradicts Promises of Reform

The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), a Bangkok-based regional human rights group representing 47 non-governmental organizations in 16 countries across Asia, concluded its fact-finding and advocacy mission from 22 to 25 July 2013, which assessed the situation of the exercise of freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly in the context of 13th General Elections in Malaysia. A fact-finding meeting between FORUM-ASIA and members of parliament was arranged by KPRU on 25 July 2013.

Briefing on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by UN Human Rights Council

Malaysia’s human rights status will be reviewed by the UN Human Rights Council on 24 October 2013. Hence, think tank Political Studies for Change (KPRU) has organised a briefing at Parliament. As COMANGO or the Cooalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process is dealing with the universal periodic review (UPR) process of Malaysia by the UN Human Rights Council, KPRU has invited representatives from COMANGO to give briefing to members of Parliament.

Bahan kajian KPRU: TPPA vs RCEP

Perjanjian Perkongsian Trans-Pasifik (TPPA) atau Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement ialah cadangan perjanjian perdagangan bebas yang melibatkan 11 negara, iaitu Amerika Syarikat, Australia, Kanada, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Malaysia, Singapura, Brunei, dan Vietnam. Rundingan pusingan ke-18 TPPA akan diadakan di Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia dari 15 Julai hingga 25 Julai 2013.

Sementara itu, Perkongsian Ekonomi Komprehensif Serantau (RCEP) atau Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership merupakan rundingan perjanjian perdagangan bebas yang ditubuhkan pada pertemuan ASEAN+6 di Bali, Indonesia pada 20 November 2012. Ia merangkumi 10 anggota ASEAN, iaitu Brunei, Kemboja, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Filipina, Singapura, Thailand dan Vietnam, serta enam negara yang dikenali sebagai rakan-rakan dialog yang mengadakan perjanjian perdagangan bebas (FTA) dengan anggota ASEAN, iaitu Australia, China, India, Jepun, Korea dan New Zealand.
